1st Southborough Rangers took up the challenge to make care packages for Macmillan cancer patients in time for Christmas. We have 5 Rangers in our unit and between them and two leaders, bought enough items of toiletries, chocolates, socks, slippers, books and even Christmas crackers to produce 19 well filled parcels wrapped in cellophane.
The care packages were delivered to East Surrey Hospital Redhill Macmillan Centre on Wednesday 12th December as the local centre in Tunbridge Wells were unable to take them. Lesley (Centre Manager) and Sue at Redhill were very welcoming, made tea and served with sausage rolls and mince pies. They were very pleased with the packages and placed them under the Christmas tree ready for distribution to their patients.
It was a really lovely experience to visit the Macmillan Centre new building, everyone was so friendly even though they were busy with their patients. The opportunity arose for a lovely long chat with a gentleman waiting for some acupuncture following his cancer treatment. He was so positive and very appreciative of the staff and centre.
