1st Wateringbury Guides Autumn Adventures

We enjoyed a great weekend for Spooks and Sparklers at Blackland Farm albeit cold and wet with climbing, crate stacking (leaders too!), crafts, bushcraft, and a Spooks Ball. On 3rd November we held a SPOTactular evening at our usual meeting to raise awareness of Children in Need for our Money and a Message Skills Builder and had lots of fun. Particularly Peckish Penguins (UMA) was a great hit for a game if you’ve not tried it yet, think of a giant human hungry hippo game.

Some intrepid Guides and leaders then continued with an after party for fun and games as well as supper before heading out on a sponsored hike for the ‘All Girls can’ challenge. Setting off at 11pm under the guidance of unit helper and walking guru Lisa, we completed 8km and returned to HQ at 2am for a mini sleepover for the remaining hours. It was the week of the awful storms but thankfully it was dry but muddy on the revised route. £285 plus £61.25 gift aid has been raised to support Girlguiding and Children in Need. Rounded off with breakfast on Saturday.

Promise ceremonies continue to get more adventurous with two up a climbing wall this time. We welcomed Annabelle back to Guides and sister Kaylin joined us. It was a bit of a challenge to salute and hold on at the same time. We had our first stall at the village Christmas Bazaar and made loads of sweet treats at Guides the night before to sell as well as various crafts we’d made during the term. The sweets sold out very fast. Guides had created jolly jars and filled with treats and gifts which were a great hit. It was a great community event as well as a fundraiser for the unit.
