At the start of the year, Headcorn Brownies decided they want to do something to raise money for Cancer Research as they have two friends from school who have both recently lost their mums. They all agreed that they liked to keep fit by walking and enjoyed being outdoors in the fields and woods, so they decided to complete the Rotary North Downs walk, one which I had done before so I knew would be a challenge but suitable for them to do.
On 11 June, 24 Brownies set off on their sponsored 6 mile walk on a beautifully sunny day. After many hills both up and down and lots of “my legs ache Brown Owl ” we finally made it to the finish line where we were treated to a bowl of strawberries and cream.
When we finally got all the sponsor money in, I was so chuffed that they had raised a massive £1069.00 which will be split between the unit and Cancer Research. What an amazing achievement by just 24 brownies. I’m very proud of them all.
