Guides from Paddock Wood attended an exclusive girl-only screening of the live action release of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast film this weekend.
5th Paddock Wood (St. Andrew’s) Guides were among more than 26,000 Girlguiding members who attended the mass screening on Saturday 18 March, which took place at ODEON cinemas across the UK.
The eagerly-awaited film remake sees Emma Watson play Belle as an inventor, giving a feminist twist to the Disney classic.
Megan, age 11, who attended the event, said: “I had a great time watching the film with my friends. My favourite part was when the characters turn back into real people to make a happy ending.”
Amelie, age 10 said: “I loved going to watch the film with my Guiding friends. I liked all the animation of Lumière & Cogsworth. I want to see it again!”
Andy Edge, Commercial Director at ODEON UK & Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Girlguiding to host these exclusive screenings of the magical Beauty and the Beast before it is released nationwide at ODEON Cinemas. Supporting the local community is hugely important to us and it was a pleasure welcoming so many excited Girl Guides through our doors to enjoy the new animation of the tale as old as time.”
Lead actress Emma Watson, who routinely speaks out against gender stereotyping, was voted one of Girlguiding members’ top 10 inspiring women in a poll last year.
Angela Gumbley, Unit Leader, said: “It was so thrilling to see the whole screen sold out with Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section. What a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning with the girls, giving them the opportunity to see the film with friends.”
