Lucy Bunting, a member of 1st Maidstone Senior Section and Young Leader at 1st Boxley Rainbows attended the region event ‘Use Your Voice’.
On the 10 September I journeyed to London for the LaSER event ‘Use Your Voice’, a two day democracy festival with many interesting events at lots of venues. I was a roving reporter which involved tweeting about different workshops and talks.
I went to many workshops, from ‘Using your voice with audio’ to the issues of FGM. Through these workshops participants found out about current issues and how to use your voice to make changes on issues you feel passionate about. It was very interesting to listen to people talk about what they have done and how they have changed other people’s perspectives.
On the Saturday evening I attended the flagship event ‘Live from the living room’ at City Hall. Here we got to meet many amazing women who use their voices in different ways. There was a talk from a suffragette, readings by a poet and a performance by singer. Finally Nicola Grinstead, the World Board Chair of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) gave an inspiring talk about making sure every girl achieves their potential.
The event was so much fun and I enjoyed meeting members of Girlguiding from all over the UK and I am now inspired to use my voice more.
